So it's been oh so long since my last post. I know that all 6 of you are disappointed in me, and to be honest, I'm a little disppointed in myself...
well, not really.
A lot has been going on lately. A lot of rehearsals and drama within the whole process. So...where to begin?
Let's start at the beginning, shall we?
the names have been protected because i kind of like anonymity
well, rehearsals in my opinion were going fairly well two weeks ago. the show isn't complicated in my mind, there's just a lot of stuff and having a script in hand makes things really hard when blocking the show (especially with the amount of juggling involved). my fellow cast member, (insert name here) was doing okay, there was just a lot of lines for him/her to conquer.
according to the schedule, we were to have a run through of the show by the end of the first week in front of the owner/creator/demi-god (she's pretty awesome). but due to some issues, we didn't get a chance.
but what reasons?
well, we just weren't ready?...although my character was on the money.
nearly a week goes by. a week of rehearsals and overall grinding. we finally get a chance to run the show for the owner. i felt pretty good about the show, even though we were all deathly ill. later on that night, we were told to take friday off.
but we have saturday scheduled off too. why do we have two consecutive days off?
friday. i decide to take this day to get better. rest up, watch some tv, stay in bed...especially since i had the solo room. around 3ish, i get a phone call from the prod. manager and she asks if she can come through and talk to me.
sure. no problem, i guess.
paraphrasing:
carlton, we had to let (insert name here) go. his/her performance wasn't up to par. your doing a great job, you've brought this show to heights we haven't seen in years and well, (insert name here) just didn't live up to our expectations. (insert name here) is packing right now and a shuttle will pick him/her up around 4 to head to the airport.
if you want to know where my jaw was during this, i'll simply say that i was picking up the change i dropped earlier with my lip. i was stunned. i always heard about this happening, i've never experienced it in anyway...at least on a professional level.
but with all of this comes a problem. the show requires two people and one was just fired. our first performance is a week away (technically a dress rehearsal, but in front of an audience at the local YMCA since schools in the area are out this week). what to do?
because of all of this, not only did i have friday and saturday off, but sunday off as well and monday was in the air.
problem
production has to find a new actor. and whoever it is has to learn the show + juggling in a week?
solution
the stage manager knows the show very well, toured it last year. he/she also has experience as an actor. decent plug in until an actor is found.
actor has been found, but wait he/she can't come in until april. can't have the sm plugging in for that long...can we?
let's pick up one of the actor's from last year too...at least until the newbie learns the show.
problem solved. so i basically will work with three people, three different chemistries. can i do it?
